The Determiners

যে সব word দ্বারা কোনো ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা স্থানকে বিশেষভাবে বা সাধারণভাবে নির্দেশ করা বুঝায় তাদেরকে Determiner বলে।
Examples:
The man who come here is a doctor.
I have a bicycle.
I love my country
All the boys are playing football.
উপরিক্ত বাক্যগুলোতে ব্যবহৃত ইটালিক word গুলো তাদের পরবর্তী noun গুলোকে বিশেষভাবে (specifically) বা সাধারণভাবে (generally) নির্দেশ করছে।এই word গুলোকে বলে Determiner.
Types of Determiners: নির্দিষ্টতা বা অনির্দিষ্টতা অর্থে Determiner গুলোকে প্রধানত দু’ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়।যেমনঃ (i) Specifying determiners; (ii) Generalizing determiners
এছাড়াও Determiner গুলোর নিম্নলিখিত ভাগে ভাগ করা যায়।যেমন:

• Articles: a, an, the,
• Demonstratives: this, that, these, those,
• Possessives: my, your, his, her, its, our, their, Rahim’s,
• Numerals/Numbers: two, three, four, etc.

Quantifiers: Some, any, few, little, more, much, each, every, both, all, enough, half, little, whole, several, less, either, neither etc.
উপরিউক্ত Determiner গুলোর মধ্যে Specific dererminer গুলো হলো- the, this, that, these, those, my, your, his, her, its, our, their, karim’s  ইত্যাদি । এবং General determiner  গুলো হলো- a, an,  all, another, any, both, each, either, enough, every, few, little, many, more, most, much, neither, no, other, several, some ইত্যাদি।
Use of Some Determiners
Determiners + Singular Countable Nouns: কিছু Determiners আছে যেগুলো শুধুমাত্র Singular Countable Noun এর সাথেই ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমনঃ a, an, another, each, either, neither, one ইত্যাদি ।
Examples:
Would you like another glass of water.
Determiners + Uncountable Nouns: কিছু Determiners আছে যেগুলো শুধুমাত্র Singular Countable Noun এর সাথেই ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমনঃ Much, Little, a little, less, least ইত্যাদি ।
Examples:
I am afraid there id little information I can give you.
We did not earn much money last year.
Determiners + Plural Countable Nouns : কতকগুলো Determiners আছে যেগুলো সবসময়  Plural Countable Noun এর সাথেই ব্যবহৃত হয় । যেমন: Both, many, few, a few, these, those, three, four ইত্যাদি।
Examples:
I just have a few photos of my childhood.
It all happened many years ago.
Determiners + Any types of Noun : কিছু Determiners আছে যেগুলো যে কোনো প্রকার Noun এর সাথেই ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমনঃ any, some, which, my, your, his, such, the what, whose, no ইত্যাদি।
Examples:
Singular: Any seat in the front row will be fine.
Uncountable: Can you give me any information about the incident.
Plural: Some students always turn up late for the class. There were no children in the playground.
Uncountable: She always tries to give me some advice. I have no news for you.
Determiners + Uncountable Noun/Plural Countable : কিছু কিছু  Determiners আছে যেগুলো একইসাথে  Plural Countable Noun অথবা Uncountable Noun এর সাথে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমনঃ all, any, enough, some, such ইত্যাদি।
Examples:
Uncountable Noun: Would you like having some juice or milk?
Plural Countable Noun: I have some friends who live in the U.S.A.
Plural Countable Noun: Do we have enough cups for everybody.
Uncountable Noun: Do we have enough money for the rest of the month.
A lot of এবং lots of এই Determiner দুটির অর্থ বেশি বা অনেক বেশি। A lot of এবং lots of  এর ব্যবহারে সুস্পষ্ট পার্থক্য বিদ্যমান। a lot of ব্যবহৃত হয় Countable এবং Uncountable উভয় প্রকার Noun এর ক্ষেত্রে। কিন্তু lots of  শুধুমাত্র Countable Plural Noun এর পূর্বে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Examples:
I have a lot of money to spend.
Lots of students have secured GPA 5 this year.
