Modals

Modal Auxiliaries: যে সমস্ত Auxiliary verb মুল verb এর পূর্বে বা সাথে যুক্ত হয়ে বিভিন্ন অর্থ প্রকাশ করে তাদেরকে Modal Auxiliaries বলে। Modal Auxiliaries- এর সাথে কখনও ing, s/es and ‘ed’ participle যুক্ত হয় না।
Modal Auxiloary Verbs:ইংরেজি ভাষার ব্যবহৃত Modal Auxiliaries গুলো হচ্ছে  can, could, may, might, shall, should, will, would, must need, ought to, used to, dare ইত্যাদি।এছাড়াও  be  to, going to, have to, would rather, had better ইত্যাদি modal Auxiliaries হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Modal Auxiliaries এর ব্যবহার:

Can

1. Ability(ক্ষমতা)বুঝাতে: I can ride a bicycle.
2. Permission (অনুমতি)বুঝাতে: Can I make a phone call?
3. Request (অনুরোধ)বুঝাতে: Can you help me solve the puzzle?

Could

1. Permission (অনুমতি) অর্থে: Could I use your computer? Yes you could.
2. Past ability: At my young age.I could play football.
3. Suggestion (প্রস্তাব): You could use my phone to call your father.

May/Might

1. Permission (অনুমতি)বুঝাতে: Present ও Future Tense এ সকল  Person-এর সাথে May ব্যবহৃত হয়।যেমন: May I come in (1st person)?
2. Possibility(সম্ভাব্যতা)বুঝাতে : May/Might, Present/Future tense এ ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Examples:
He may disclose the secret.
He might leave the country. (But there is doubt)

1. Wishes and Hopes (ইচ্ছা বা আকাঙ্ক্ষা)বুঝাতে : May, you be happy in life.

Shall

Command, therat, authoritative, order, 2nd 3rd person shall
Examples:
You shall be punished. (Threat)
You shall carry out order. (Command)

Should

1. Obligation/duty বুঝাতে: We should respect our teachers.
2. Advice/Recommendation: You should stop taking drugs.
3. অতীতের Obligation প্রকাশ করার ক্ষেত্রে should ব্যবহৃত হয়।

গঠন: Sub + should have + verb (past participle) + …..
Examples:
You should have helped the poor man.

Will

1. ভবিষ্যতের ঘটনা বুঝতে সকল Person-এ  wile বসে। যেমন: He will go home.
2.দৃঢ় প্রতিজ্ঞা (Deternination) বুঝতে 1st person  এ will   বসে।
Examples:
I will complete my graduation at any cost.

Would

 1. Polite  Request বুঝতে:  Would you Please not  smoke?
2.  Offer /Invitation বুঝতে:  Would you mind joining us in the party?
3. If clause টি past Tense  এ থাকলে  Participial Clause এ Subject-এর পরে would বসে।
Examples:
If you studied attentively, you would pass in the exam.
4. If clause টি Past Perfect Tense-এ থাকলে Participial clause এ subject এর পরে would have+ verb (Past Participial) বলে।
Examples:
If I had Known you were coming, I would have gone to the station.

Must

Past Tense এর ক্ষেত্রে  must এর অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে Had to ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Obligation (বাধ্যবাধকতা),  Advice (উপদেশ),  Certainty (নিশ্চয়তা)  Determination বুঝতে must ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Examples:
We must obey our parents (obligation)
You must  take medicine regularly (advice)
 He must come to me (certainty) 
I must be a good father (determination)

Need

‘Need’ Principal ও Auxiliary  উভয় verb রুপে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
1. Need যখন Auxiliary verb রুপে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন তাকে Semi modal বলে।
2. Moda হিসেবে যখনl Need ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন তা Negative অর্থ প্রকাশ করে। এর অর্থ হয় (প্রয়োজন নেই)। He need not call for help.
3. Mode হিসেবে ‘Need’ Present Indefinite Tense- এ ব্যবহৃত হয়। এক্ষেত্রে Need এরপর Infinitive  ‘to’ উহ্য থাকে।
4. Model হিসেবে Need যখন Present Indefinite Tense এ  Negative ও Interrogative sentence গঠনে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন 3rd Person singular Number এ  ‘need’ এর সাথে ‘s’  যোগ হয় না।
Examples:
He need not go to market.
Need he go to market? = No, he needn’t.

Used to

1. অতীতের অনিয়মিত অভ্যাস বুঝাতে সকল Person এ used to ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Examples:
I used to take physical exercise.
2.অতীতের নিয়মিত অভ্যাস বুঝাতে সকল Person এ used to ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং এক্ষেত্রে used to-এর পূর্বে be verb বসে এবং পরবর্তী verb-এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়
Examples:
I was used to going school everyday.
Be+used+to+verb(ing)
Had Better
Modal অর্থে  ‘Had better‌‌‌‌‌’ unreal past কিন্তু তা present অথবা future tense এর অর্থ প্রকাশ করে। কোন কিছু করা ভাল এমন ধারণা বুঝাতে সকল person এ had better ব্যবহৃত হয়। এক্ষেত্রে had better এর পর মূল verb এর base form বসে।
Examples:
You had better go home.
You had better not miss the train
